Goals:

The Caring Ambassadors Lung Cancer Program works daily to:

  • address the informational needs of people living with lung cancer and their loved ones
  • provide compassion and support to those facing the many challenges of lung cancer
  • increase lung cancer awareness to augment the priority of lung cancer on local, state, and national health agendas (both public and private)
  • bring hope to families living with lung cancer

Biomarkers Differentiated Lung Cancer, Nontumor Lung Pathologies
“Researchers at Saarland University in Germany have identified potential serum-based biomarkers that may detect lung cancer, and these biomarkers appear to differentiate between patients with lung cancer and patients with nontumor lung pathologies.”

Identification of Low Penetrance Alleles for Lung Cancer: The Genetic Lung Cancer Predisposition Study (GELCAPS)
“Part of the inherited risk to lung cancer is likely to include common, low risk alleles. The identification of this class of susceptibility is contingent on association-based analyses.”

Enzyme That Sensitizes Cells To Chemotherapeutics Could Also Be New Anti-cancer Target
(Medical News Today) “Researchers at Van Andel Institute (VAI) and Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research have identified an important enzyme required for cancer cell survival. Lowering levels of the enzyme caused a wide variety of cancer cells to die, reduced proliferation of cancer cells, and sensitized cancer cells to commonly used chemotherapeutic agents, such as the drug Taxol.”

Imaging System Lets Doctors 'See' Cancer During Surgery
Fluorescent dyes light up diseased tissue on video monitors, helping spare healthy cells
(HealthDay News) “A new imaging system that highlights cancerous tissue makes it easier for surgeons to detect and remove tumors without harming surrounding healthy tissue, according to U.S. researchers.”

“Hoping to repeat its Phase II success, privately held NovaRx Corp. launched a pivotal study of therapeutic vaccine Lucanix (belagenpumatucel-L) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients under a special protocol assessment approved early this year.”
